Harishchandragad is a historic hill fort located in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, India. It is part of the Western Ghats and is situated at an altitude of about 1,424 meters (4,672 feet) above sea level. The fort is known for its rugged terrain, ancient temples, caves, and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Sahyadri mountain range.
The fort has a rich historical background and is believed to have been constructed during the reign of the Kalachuri dynasty in the 6th century. Over the centuries, it changed hands between various dynasties, including the Marathas and the Mughals. One of the main attractions on Harishchandragad is the Kedareshwar temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is unique because it houses a naturally formed Shivalinga that is surrounded by water throughout the year.
