One of Shivaji Maharaj's favourite forts was Rajgad Fort. He remained at this fort the longest. It has traditionally served as the Maratha Empire's capital. The palaces, water cisterns, and caverns are still visible in the ruinous areas.

Where is Rajgad Fort in Pune?
Rajgad Fort is a popular getaway on the outskirts of Pune. It’s on Murumb Hill, about 50 km from Pune city. From the top, you can get a panoramic view of the lush green plains and the Torna and Sinhagad Fort nearby.
History of Rajgad Fort
The fort has stood witness to many significant historic events including the birth of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s son “Rajaram Chhatrapati”, the death of Shivaji’s Queen Saibai, the return of Shivaji from Agra, the burial of Afzal Khan’s head in the Mahadarwaja walls of Balle Killa, the strict words of Sonopant Dabir to Shivaji.
The Rajgad Fort was also one of the 17 forts that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj kept when he signed the Treaty of Purandar in 1665, with the Mughal general Jai Singh I, leader of the Mughal forces. Under this treaty, 23 forts were handed over to the Mughals.

Day 1 :
- Meet at Deccan at 06:30 am on Saturday morning and start journey towards Gunjvane by Bus.
- Have Breakfast on the way to Gunjawane village, base village of Rajgad. We start trek at 09:30am & it will take 2 and half hours to reach from Gunjavne to top of the fort and it will be scenic journey.
- Reach top by 12:00 am & Pitch Tents .
- Have the lunch and start exploring fort.
- We will explore Padmavati Machi & Balekila and will head to Sanjivani Machi to watch beautiful sunset.
- At the end of the day, have dinner & enjoy campfire(if possible) with mind blowing ghost stories, old bollywood songs, games and spend night under the stars.
Day 2 :
- Watch early sunrise from Suvela machi and explore other parts of fort.
- Enjoy breakfast and start descending by 10am.
- Reach base by 12:30pm have lunch & return to Pune by 5.00 pm.
